Sifting or screening is
a mechanical process
that separates material
according to individual
particle size. This is
done by moving the
material over a screen
having openings of an
appropriate size.
Sifting can essentially
be divided into 3
different categories
according to the process
objectives.
1)
Scalping removes a small
amount of oversize
material from the
product;
2)
Grading separates
material by particle
size using appropriate
mesh sizes; and
3)
Fines Removal or
de-dusting removes a
small amount of
undersize material. |
